Over the past decade, the underlying design of the Internet has made it a widely popular medium of expression. This medium has grown into a multi-million dollar business for free information sharing forums. Today’s means of sharing information and communicating have evolved by leaps and bounds from the bulletin boards of yesteryear to chat rooms and even dedicated chat software with very advanced features like file sharing and live video streaming.
When text-based chatting was first developed, there was only dedicated software from Yahoo! or AOL taking the lion’s share. Almost at the same time, website owners and developers joined the revolutionary wagon and started enabling chat rooms for a website to increase traffic.
This was based on the general notion that a user would keep coming back to the site to use the chat room. In this day and age, chat rooms are almost a thing of the past, being replaced by more interactive and even voice-enabled environments like Second Life. However, that doesn’t mean that chat rooms aren’t needed for a website to increase traffic.
In order to use and implement the feature properly, one needs to place the chat rooms on the front page of their website or even on the FAQ page. Instead of old-fashioned chat rooms, even newer apps like ChatStat, which are more intuitive and can run right in your browser, might be a better option.
Enabled chat rooms for a website to increase traffic can be successful if the chat system is not only resource intensive but can run even on very slow internet connections. Advanced features like live chat translation can also be an added bonus, but even with such additional features, chat rooms are not very practical for any or every website out there and need to be carefully evaluated before a successful implementation.
